Charming houses for a weekend or for vacations in Honfleur

1 hour 30minutes from Paris, Honfleur is the perfect place to spend a romantic weekend or a family vacation; a beautiful port, the beach, old stones, golf courses all around, casinos, bike rides, restaurants and seafood. All that is left is to find houses to rent to make this dream come true.

THE LITTLE HOUSES OF HONFLEUR

The charm of Honfleur is its old houses, built around the Vieux-Bassin. The old stones, the timbered walls, the slate or tile roofs have made the reputation of the two historical districts where you should stay: the Sainte-Catherine district and the Saint-Léonard district. We always advise against staying directly on the Vieux-Bassin, which is noisier. Honfleur is a small town where everything is within walking distance and where you can leave your car in front of your house, which is a great luxury when you are on a weekend or on vacation.

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR HOUSE IN HONFLEUR?

Choosing a weekend or vacation house in Honfleur is not that easy. The tourist offer is immense, between hotels, guesthouses, seasonal rentals, serviced residences, apartment hotels, etc. How to find your way? The first thing to do is to choose the area where you want to live.

THE SAINTE-CATHERINE DISTRICT

The houses are typical of old Honfleur. One has the impression of living in a postcard setting from the beginning of the 20th century. Be careful to choose a house with character... but with modern comfort. Your weekend or your vacations will be even better.

THE VIEUX-BASSIN

Undeniably the most touristic district of Honfleur, but also the most animated. Perfect for a drink, to walk, to stroll among the sailing boats. However, not recommended for a weekend or vacation home... if you want to sleep at night.

THE SAINT-LÉONARD DISTRICT

Less known than Sainte-Catherine, the Saint-Léonard district is however just as old. We find houses with wood paneling and streets full of charm, a little wider to circulate which is not negligible in this medieval city.

THE HOUSES OF PIERRE AND VALÉRIE

Lovers of Honfleur, where we spent our weekends and vacations, we first chose to renovate a small angler’s house in the Sainte-Catherine district. It is perfect for two to four people and has all the modern comfort. It is the house of Pierre and Valérie Sainte-Catherine. Then we were seduced by a second house, just as old, in the Saint-Léonard district that we also completely renovated. It is the Pierre and Valérie Saint-Léonard house. They are open to you so that you can find your dream house for a romantic weekend or a family vacation.

A HOUSE FOR 4 PEOPLE IN THE SAINTE-CATHERINE DISTRICT

Around the fountain, that once supplied the district with water, is the House of Pierre and Valérie Sainte-Catherine. It is an old anglers’ house, entirely redone for the needs of modern comfort, which has kept its charm of yesteryear. A beautiful living room, two bedrooms and a bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen allow you to spend very pleasant vacations or weekends. You are a five minutes’ walk from the Vieux-Bassin. Do not miss the Saturday morning market on the Place Sainte-Catherine or the frequent flea markets, which make the charm of a Norman weekend.

A HOUSE FOR 6 PERSONS IN THE HISTORICAL HEART OF HONFLEUR

Beside the tourist office and a 5 minutes’ walk from the Vieux-Bassin, the House of Pierre and Valérie - Saint-Léonard - comfortably accommodates up to 6 people in its three bedrooms, including a master suite, its large dining room and its vast living room. Located in the hyper-center, it benefits from all the conveniences and the nearby stores. For a weekend or a vacation, you will love this ancient house which has been renovated, but where Pierre and Valérie have kept the patina of the old stones and the hundred-year-old beams. What guests particularly appreciate: breakfast on the balcony-terrace while the city slowly awakens.

THE SUNDAY AND EVEN SATURDAY PAINTER

Painters, particularly sensitive to the light of the estuary, have been visiting Honfleur since the end of the 18th century. However, it was at the beginning of the 19th century that they went there in greater numbers, following in the footsteps of talented English watercolorists and landscape artists. This was the beginning of outdoor painting and therefore of natural light.Honfleur became an exceptional artistic center: Eugène Boudin, whose influence was decisive on the Impressionist movement, gathered around him many artist friends, including Jongkind, Monet and the poet Charles Baudelaire. Walk on the harbor, sailing boat, Honfleur

THE WALK ON THE HARBOUR

Honfleur was one of the few cities in Normandy spared by the bombings of the Second World War. Its small harbor (the Vieux-Bassin) lined with old houses has been miraculously preserved as well as its picturesque churches. Today, the pleasure boats, the ice cream vendors and the restaurants of the port give this destination a little air of Saint-Tropez Normand. All proportions reserved.

THE SEA TOUR

It is well known that the land is best visited from the sea. It takes about 45 minutes to sail on the Bassin de l'Est (cruise ships), the Bassin Carnot (yachting and ship restoration), the exit of the harbor with the view on the lock and the radar tower, the Vieux-Bassin (history of the city), the outer harbor and the Quai de la Quarantaine (fishing boats). Above La Calypso, a former whaling ship, to discover Honfleur as you have never seen it before!

THE BATHING AND THE BEACH

Honfleur is classified as a "Seaside and Tourist Resort". Located at the entrance of Honfleur from the coast road, the Butin beach has all the facilities to welcome you comfortably and safely during the summer season: free parking nearby, showers, cabins, equipment rental, and a playground for children. From April to October, the beach also has a restaurant and inflatable playgrounds.
